Fidan warns recent US–Iran strikes risk escalating tensions

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that until the last few days, the negotiations between the United States and Iran had in fact reached a stage where only a few phrases remained unresolved in certain parts of the text.

According to him, there was a widespread belief that an agreement between the two countries would soon be reached.

“However, we have seen that the reciprocal attacks that began two days ago carry a risk of escalation. This is genuinely a cause for concern for us,” Fidan stated, urging the parties to cease hostilities as soon as possible, return to the negotiating table, and “finalize the text that they were so close to completing.”

“We have all witnessed and experienced that the escalation of the war, the increase in tensions, and a return to an all-out war environment benefit no one,” Fidan said.
