Starmer resigns as British PM

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he has decided to step down from his position.

Earlier, media reports suggested that Starmer could announce his resignation on Monday, June 22, and begin the process of transferring power to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.

Reports also indicated that Starmer spent the weekend reflecting on whether to resign or fight to retain the leadership of his party.

Pressure on Starmer had been building for several months and intensified sharply last Friday, when Burnham secured a convincing victory in elections.
