Ukraine’s and Iran’s foreign ministers discuss strike on Iranian vessel

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart to discuss the recent incident involving an Iranian civilian vessel.

In a post on X, Sybiha said the conversation took place at Ukraine’s initiative and was “frank.

The Ukrainian foreign minister stressed that Kyiv’s actions, including the strike on the Iranian vessel, were aimed solely at defending the country “from Russian aggression” and were not intended to harm civilian vessels or people.

Sybiha also urged Iran to refrain from actions that could lead to further escalation, saying that Russia bears full responsibility for the current situation, provocations, and the casualties resulting from them.

Earlier, Tehran accused Kyiv of carrying out an attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea.
