Turkish FM hopes US-Iran talks will conclude with positive news today

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has expressed hope that negotiations between Iran and the United States will conclude with positive news today.

Fidan said discussions are underway on the mechanism, terms and timeframe for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

“It is important that an agreement is reached on a transition period. Oil supplies must continue to flow to prevent a rise in global oil and energy prices. At the same time, this would lay the groundwork for reaching a long-term agreement,” the Turkish foreign minister said.

According to Fidan, the parties are discussing a 60-day transition period.

“If the outstanding issues are resolved within those 60 days, the parties could reach a permanent agreement,” he said.
