Iran threatens to target US economic interests if pressure increases

Iran could harm US economic interests in the Middle East if pressure from sanctions intensifies, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei has warned.

“If the United States increases economic pressure on Iran, we will respond with countermeasures that will affect American interests in the region,” he said in an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Manar TV channel. Rezaei did not elaborate on what kind of countermeasures he was referring to.

According to him, the United States’ shift toward economic pressure on Tehran indicates that a military approach to resolving the conflict has yielded limited results.

Earlier, Axios reported that the US does not plan to launch new strikes against Iran in the near future and intends to focus on other means of pressuring Tehran, including sanctions.
