European Parliament adopts resolution on Georgia, calling for sanctions
A resolution on Georgia has been adopted at the plenary session of the European Parliament.
The resolution, titled "The ruling Georgian Dream party's attempts to ban opposition parties in Georgia," was supported by 445 deputies, 37 deputies voted against, and 97 deputies abstained.
The document strongly condemns the attempts to ban Georgia's opposition parties and demands the immediate withdrawal of the constitutional lawsuit filed against the political associations.
In addition, the resolution calls on the European Union and its member states to impose sanctions against the honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
