Macron convenes National Security Council meeting to discuss AI risks

French President Emmanuel Macron will hold an extraordinary meeting of the Defence and National Security Council dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI).

This was reported by French media, citing the Élysée Palace.

The purpose of this meeting is to define the security framework and anticipate the challenges associated with the development of AI.

"Macron is convening a Defence and National Security Council meeting on Wednesday dedicated to artificial intelligence. Like space or nuclear energy, artificial intelligence has become a strategic field that raises critical questions regarding national security and sovereignty," the statement reads.

It is noted that the meeting had been scheduled well in advance and is not linked to the numerous cyberattacks France has faced in recent months.
