“Lower your weapons, raise wages”: Mass protests held in Italy
A large demonstration against the Italian government, its “war economy” and increased military spending, as well as the rising cost of living, is taking place in central Rome, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
Participants began gathering in the square outside the central Termini railway station. The demonstrators are set to march through the streets of the historic city centre towards the Imperial Forums and the Colosseum. Around 20,000 people are expected to take part in the march.
Students, pro-Palestinian supporters, left-wing activists and representatives of various social movements, who organized separate gathering points across the city, have joined the main march organized by the major trade union USB.
The protest is being held under the slogan: “Lower your weapons, raise wages. Let's shut everything down!”
At the head of the march is a truck carrying a banner that reads: “Bread, pasta and petrol are getting more expensive. Meloni's government is a government of thieves.”
