Five areas of U.S. foreign policy that could change following the Democrats victory

Reuters has identified five areas of U.S. foreign policy that could undergo changes following the Democratic Party’s victory in the midterm congressional elections.

“Starting in January, Democrats will be able to decide what comes up for a vote and when,” the publication noted.

The first two areas identified by Reuters are the possibility of limiting the president’s powers over military action and government spending, as well as the situation surrounding Iran. Potential measures include blocking appointments and requiring the administration to provide regular reports to lawmakers.

Among the other three areas, Reuters points to the possible resumption of support for Ukraine and other foreign partners, restrictions on military assistance to Israel, and increased congressional oversight of U.S. policy in Latin America.

In the midterm elections held on November 3, Democrats made significant gains and are projected to secure majorities in both chambers of Congress. The newly elected Congress is scheduled to begin its work on January 3, 2027.

Trump said he was not concerned about the possibility of impeachment, arguing that such a move would destroy the Democratic Party.
