The office of Nicolás Maduro, a Venezuelan presidential candidate and the country’s incumbent president, announced his victory in the elections, RIA Novosti writes.
“We are thankful to all of you. We cannot announce the result, but we can show our faces. This was a victory for everyone. This was a victory that will help us build a future,” Jorge Rodríguez, the former chief of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council and now the president of the country’s National Assembly, said.
Rodríguez called on everyone to wait for the official figures of the National Electoral Council (CNE), “because we respect the law and Constitution of our country”.
The presidential election in Venezuela took place on Sunday, July 28. Ten candidates were running, including the incumbent president, Nicolás Maduro—who has ruled the country since 2013—and Edmundo González Urrutia, the main opposition candidate.
