Iran to consider cities near Persian Gulf for new capital

Iranian authorities will consider urban centers near the Persian Gulf to relocate the capital from Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at a press conference on Sept. 16, noting that most of the world’s major cities are located on the sea coast, RIA Novosti writes.

According to the Iranian president, most of the factories near Tehran get the necessary raw materials from the Persian Gulf.

Earlier, Pezeshkian announced the need to move the country’s capital for economic and environmental reasons.
