Mikheil Saakashvili sentenced to an additional 4.5 years in prison
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has been sentenced to an additional 4.5 years in prison for illegally crossing the border.
The judge added this sentence to Saakashvili’s previous eight-year prison term, which he received last week for the large-scale embezzlement of budgetary funds. Thus, Saakashvili will serve a total of 12 years and 6 months in prison. His sentence is calculated from the date of his arrest on Oct. 1, 2021.
Saakashvili is facing another criminal case related to the events of Nov. 7, 2007.
