Turkey ready to facilitate mediation between Russia and US
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan does not plan to meet with representatives from Russia and the U.S., RIA Novosti writes.
As noted, Turkey is ready to offer any mediation necessary on the margins of the negotiation process between Russia and the U.S.
A diplomatic source in the Turkish capital reported that the delegations from Russia and the United States have chosen Istanbul as the venue for their talks. According to the source, the negotiations are proceeding calmly and constructively.
Reports indicate that negotiations between the Russian and U.S. delegations have begun in Istanbul. The meeting is taking place at the Russian Consulate General. Russia is represented by Ambassador Alexander Darchiev, while the U.S. delegation is led by Sonata Coulter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. Other participants include representatives from the foreign policy departments of both countries.
Darchiev stated that the meeting aims to help move beyond the “toxic legacy” of former U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration. During this new round of talks, the Russian side will discuss the return of confiscated diplomatic property and raise the issue of restoring direct air communications.
