European Commission chief says ‘Middle Corridor’ is of critical importance for Europe, and Armenia plays significant role

In Yerevan, we will first of all discuss our energy independence. Since we import large amounts of energy, Europe must increase the use of its internal resources — nuclear energy and renewable energy sources, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters in Yerevan ahead of the European Political Community summit.

She drew attention to Europe’s military dependence on other countries, noting that this issue is also on the summit’s agenda.

Emphasising that the summit will discuss the development of “reliable supply chains,” Ursula von der Leyen also spoke about the importance of the “Middle Corridor” for Europe.

She said that the Middle Corridor is of critical importance for Europe, ensuring connectivity between the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and that Armenia plays a significant role in this field.
