Lavrov says Yerevan could lose all privileges within EAEU

Moscow and Yerevan relations will be discussed at the upcoming Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) summit scheduled for late May in Kazakhstan, which Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan will not be able to attend, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, according to RIA Novosti

Lavrov explained that Pashinyan had previously stated he would be busy with election-related matters and would be unable to participate in the EAEU leaders’ meeting.

“This is, of course, regrettable, as it would have been a good opportunity to discuss issues that are currently left unresolved,” Lavrov noted.

He also warned that Yerevan could lose all of its privileges within the EAEU framework.

“We have relations with Armenia, and they are close and allied. But at the same time, they are complicated. This is taking place against the backdrop of the West attempting to subordinate Armenia and cut its mutually beneficial economic, trade, and investment ties with its CIS and EAEU partners,” he said.
