China supports Turkey’s membership in BRICS
China supports the membership of more like-minded partners in BRICS, Mao Ning, the deputy director of the Information Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press briefing, commenting on media reports about Turkey’s plans to join the organization. The diplomat added that BRICS is an important platform for cooperation between emerging markets and developing countries.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Turkey had officially asked to join BRICS as it seeks to strengthen its global influence and establish new ties outside the circle of its traditional Western allies. Spokesperson for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov also confirmed the information, noting that Turkey is interested in joining BRICS and had announced its desire to become a member of the organization a long time ago.
