The Armenian authorities should negotiate with Russia if they want to withdraw the Russian border guards from the Armenian border with Turkey and Iran, Maj. Gen. Alexander Mikhailov, now in Russia’s reserve forces, said.
“Russia should participate in the discussion of that issue. Pashinyan cannot control the Russian troops, the Russian border guards and the Federal Security Service. He is the prime minister of Armenia, who only attracts the attention of journalists,” Mikhailov stated.
Director of the Institute of Modern State Development Dmitry Solonnikov noted: “The main task of NATO and the U.S. is to establish control over all strategic, commercial and logistical routes in the world, including the South Caucasus. Now the representatives of the Western countries want to take control of the Zangezur corridor through the Armenian authorities in order to finally place it under the control of the U.S. Armed Forces and NATO,” Solonnikov said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented in a press briefing on Armenian NA President Alen Simonyan’s statement, where he said that Armenia should consider withdrawing Russian border guards from the border between Turkey and Iran. According to Zakharova, before withdrawing the Russian border guards, it is necessary to think about the security of Armenia, in the absence of complete normalization of relations in the region.
