
14-point US–Iran deal published
A 14-point US–Iran memorandum, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” has been published, CNN reports.
Some of the key provisions of the deal are presented below:
- The parties commit not to initiate military actions against each other and to refrain from the use or threat of force.
- The United States and Iran commit to respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to non-interference in internal affairs.
- The parties commit to completing negotiations on a final deal within a maximum of 60 days, with a possible extension subject to mutual consent.
- Immediately after signing the deal, the United States will begin lifting the naval blockade around Iran and will fully terminate it within 30 days.
- Iran will ensure the safe and free passage of commercial vessels in the region of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
- The United States commits, together with regional partners, to develop a financial plan for Iran’s economic recovery and development.
- The United States commits to the phased lifting of all sanctions imposed on Iran.
