Putin: In 2020, Aliyev was ready to stop the war, but the Armenian side said that they would fight

There was an opportunity to end the 2020 war between Armenia
and Azerbaijan earlier; Ilham Aliyev had given his consent. However, Armenia
laid down a new condition, and the military operations continued. Russian
President Vladimir Putin said this at the Valdai Discussion Club.

“President Aliyev was ready to stop the war. I gave a call
to Yerevan, and they demanded that Azerbaijan leave the insignificant part of
the territories of Karabakh that it had entered. I warned them that in a few
days Azerbaijan would be in their rear in Aghdam. However, they told me ‘we
will fight’. And they fought,” he said.
