Diplomatic show and secret decisions at the round table
This chatter at the round table in Kazan was certainly not about asking each other’s well-being. Experts believe it was here that a decision was made to meet in hours face-to-face without mediators. Here they just agreed upon some details that were probably necessary for a meeting to be arranged.
They held a private meeting for about an hour, came out and shook hands according to protocol, then posed for photos. A press release came out later.
It is of no particular importance for big countries how much from whose territory will come under another one’s control for the sake of peace. Give or take one village or one meter: this does not change anything for Russia, for example. What really matters for them is that everything aimed at peace happens on the Russian platform.
On the whole, it is good that after more than twenty official meetings between Pashinyan and Aliyev since 2018, this one did not make any significant progress, the political strategist says. There is hope that Armenia will still remain Armenian, or at least a new capitulation will not take place.
