Kallas excludes Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution without EU involvement

No agreement can be reached on the Russia-Ukraine conflict without Europe’s involvement, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said in an interview with Corriere della Sera, noting that EU assistance to Ukraine is not charity.

“This war is in Europe; it concerns Ukraine, but also Europe, and for real peace to be achieved, European involvement is necessary. I cannot see any deal without the EU’s participation,” Kallas said.

Regarding the EU aid provided to Ukraine, Kallas considers it an investment in the organization’s own security.

“For us, helping Ukraine is not charity; we are making an investment in our own security because we don’t want this war to spread further, and we want to stop it,” the official noted.

U.S. President Donald Trump, for his part, stated that both he and Russian President Vladimir Putin would like to strike a deal regarding the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
