Stolen Louvre jewels offered for sale to Israeli company
The individuals who broke into the Louvre Museum in October and stole valuable jewelry attempted to sell the stolen items through the darknet, Bild writes, citing Tzvika Naveh, head of the Israeli security company CGI Group.
According to Naveh, five days after the heist, a representative of the thieves contacted his company, CGI Group.
“He asked whether we would negotiate the purchase of stolen artworks through the darknet and said we had 24 hours to respond,” Bild quotes Naveh as saying.
Naveh noted that his team immediately notified the relevant authorities in Paris about the attempted transaction. However, he added that “bureaucratic obstacles hindered the possibility of recovering at least part of the stolen artworks.
Earlier reports stated that seven people have already been arrested in connection with the heist. The thieves had stolen jewelry from the imperial collection, valued at a total of €88 million.
