At age 13, 109 crimes: Controversial case in Australia

A 13-year-old girl in Australia has been charged with committing 109 offences, The Age writes.

The charges include theft and intentionally hitting a cyclist with a vehicle. Just three minutes after the incident, the teenager reportedly searched on Google for the prison sentence for hit-and-run offences and also looked up where Jewish people live in order to track them.

One of the most serious incidents occurred on March 30. In a suburb of Melbourne, the girl allegedly used a stolen car in an attempt to hit a cyclist and, after a prolonged chase, struck him with the vehicle.

Investigators say the girl is suffering from a “craving for notoriety” and has been taking satisfaction in news coverage and social media attention generated by her crimes.

Her defense team requested release on bail, but the court denied the request, and she remains in custody.
