Trump says even weeks of bombing Iran would not reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said that if the United States were to bomb Iran for two to three weeks—which he says they can easily do if they want—Tehran would be left with nothing, and many people would be killed. However, he warned that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed for months.

Trump also said that through negotiations, the sides could sign a document that, in his view, would be “stronger than bombing.” He added that the United States is very close to reaching an agreement with Iran.

Responding to a reporter’s question about recent reciprocal strikes between Iran and Israel and whether he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop attacks on Iran, Trump said: “No, I said do what’s right, but I want you to stop as quickly as you can.”
