‘Michael’ surpasses ‘Oppenheimer’ to become highest-grossing biopic of all time
Antoine Fuqua’s “Michael,” the biopic about the King of Pop, has become the highest-grossing biopic in cinema history, Deadline writes.
The movie, which stars Jackson’s nephew, Jafar Jackson in the title role, has recorded a global box office total of $977.4 million in its 10th weekend in cinemas, surpassing “Oppenheimer’s” approximately $975 million global gross.
Released in April 2026, the movies follows Jackson’s journey from his early years performing with The Jackson 5 alongside his brothers to becoming the King of Pop. It explores the singer’s early musical career, family relationships, and the formation of his solo career.
“Michael” had already set another major record earlier this month by surpassing the $911 million global gross of the 2018 biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” about Freddie Mercury and Queen. “Bohemian Rhapsody” had long been considered the highest-grossing music biographical film.
