Rutte says NATO will defend every inch of its territory
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at the alliance’s summit in Ankara that the recent US strikes against Iran were “absolutely necessary.”
Highlights from Rutte’s remarks:
- I expect allies today to reconfirm that Iran should never ever get its hands on a nuclear capability.
- The recent US strikes against Iran were absolutely necessary. Iran is violating the ceasefire.
- Defense cannot be secured with dollars, pounds, euros, or liras. Security must be ensured by men and women in uniform. They need to be recruited; defense industrial production capacity needs to be developed.
- “This alliance will defend every inch of our territory. Don’t play with us. We will never attack anyone. We will only defend our way of life, our democracies, our territory,” Rutte said.
