Brenda Fricker, first Irish Oscar winner, dies

Irish actress Brenda Fricker, the first Irish performer to win an Academy Award, has died, RTÉ reports.

During a career spanning several decades, Fricker appeared in around 80 films. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1990 for her performance in My Left Foot.

Fricker was also widely known for her role as the Pigeon Lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
