French government may block social media platforms over calls for unrest
The French government is considering blocking social media platforms that fail to remove posts calling for rebellion and violence after receiving official requests to do so, according to Le Figaro.
A relevant amendment to the bill has already been submitted to parliament, the newspaper reports.
Under the proposal, platforms would be required to remove content inciting terrorist acts, riots, or armed conflict within one hour.
A 24-hour deadline would apply for the removal of calls to murder, violence, and looting.
The initiative follows the widespread unrest that accompanied the protests on October 17.
