European Parliament members worried about Artsakh cultural heritage
Member of the European Parliament Miriam Lexmann said that that several dozen members of the European Parliament, representing different parties, appealed to President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, calling on them to take steps to protect the Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the Republic of Artsakh.
“We, the undersigned Members of the European Parliament, are alarmed that the millennia-old Armenian cultural and religious heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh is under an imminent threat of destruction, desecration, and appropriation in blatant violation of the International law and legally binding order of the International Court of Justice of 7.12.2021. These sites are an important part of our European heritage, and it is our duty to ensure that they are protected,” reads the official letter.
