Founding Director of Genesis Armenia Think Tank and Foundation, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Abraham Gasparyan commented on the statement of the Azerbaijani foreign minister in an interview with ABC media, noting that Azerbaijan is attempting to troll Armenia regarding its non-participation in COP29 and present it to the world as a manifestation of “revanchism” by Armenia.
“Last week, they probably had information about Armenia’s non-participation and began to continuously use propaganda components to present to the world that while the world is discussing crucial climate issues, Armenia, which supposedly strives for peace, is not there,” the political scientist said.
According to Gasparyan, this is a propaganda trick aimed at showing COP29 participants that Armenia has no connection to peace.
“Armenia must participate, if not at the highest level, then at the level of the president or the deputy prime minister. If it is unavoidable, they should go there well-prepared with a serious dossier of issues and raise their voice. This concerns the necessity of returning our captives illegally held in Azerbaijan, ensuring a broader audience for the international community, and raising these issues before that audience. This is about the actual ecocide being perpetrated by Azerbaijan,” Gasparyan stated.
According to the political scientist, such issues are not currently on the agenda of the present Armenian authorities, and neither Artsakh nor the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a priority in terms of foreign policy. Given these circumstances, it is unrealistic to expect that Armenia’s participation would yield results.
