Over $53B needed for Gaza reconstruction

The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip will require more than $53 billion, according to a U.N. report. Approximately $20.5 billion will be needed in the first three years alone.

The largest expenditures are anticipated in the housing sector ($15.2 billion), trade and industry ($6.9 billion), healthcare ($6.9 billion), agriculture ($4.2 billion), and education ($2.6 billion).

The report also notes that over 60% of residential homes, 65% of roads, and 88% of schools have been destroyed in the war. The unemployment rate has reached 80%, and nearly 1.9 million people have been displaced. The report calls on the international community to urgently provide financial and technical support to facilitate the reconstruction of Gaza and create conditions for sustainable development in the region.
