US sets conditions for Iran to resume peace talks
The United States has presented Iran with a list of five demands that must be met in order to resume peace negotiations, according to a report by the Iranian Fars News Agency. The proposal is described as Washington’s response to a similar Iranian initiative.
According to the news outlet, the US position includes the following points:
- Washington will not compensate Iran for damages incurred;
- Iran must remove and hand over 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the United States;
- Iran must maintain only one operational nuclear facility;
- The United States will unfreeze no more than 25% of Iran’s frozen assets;
- A cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, is possible only through negotiations.
Fars also cited unnamed experts as saying that the United States is not seeking a resolution to the issue, but rather aims to achieve objectives it failed to secure during the conflict.
