Serzh Sargsyan: The collective West supports the authorities, while our allies do not interfere in our internal affairs

Serzh Sargsyan: The collective West supports the authorities, while our allies do not interfere in our internal affairs

The struggle is going on, and I don’t think it is losing momentum, Third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan told the press after the verdict of acquittal was announced.

“So what would you suggest then? To stop and not fight at all? I cannot see any other way,” he said, talking about the protests taking place in Armenia.

Speaking about the external support that the authorities enjoy, Sargsyan noted: “When I say outside forces, I mean the collective West, because traditionally our allies, or non-Western countries, refrain from making statements regarding our domestic affairs; of course there have been various statements at different times, but they have not been made directly.”

In response to the remark that Turkey and Azerbaijan have made statements about the rallies the third president noted: “The stance of Turkey or that of Azerbaijan mean nothing to me; they don’t even have that right, although they are members of the Council of Europe too; one is a member, the other’s membership has been suspended.”
