The new anthem of new Armenia: Government approves changes
The order of the lines in the National Anthem of Armenia will be altered, the Government has decided. However, before the decision was made, the new version of the anthem had already been played at an official event held on Nov. 8. They seem to have violated the law. The question of changing Armenia’s national anthem has been a topic of discussion for many years. However, the topic came to be discussed more actively after the change of power in 2018, when Alen Simonyan declared that the change to the anthem was inevitable. In 2019, a working group was formed, and a competition was announced for new lyrics for the anthem, while the music was supposed to be that of the anthem of Soviet Armenia, composed by Aram Khachaturian.
Earlier this year, Simonyan declared that Armenia needs an Armenian anthem that would be related to our state. According to the new draft law, the third and final lines of the anthem will be swapped: The third line of the current anthem will now be the final line, and the anthem will end with the words “Let Armenia always be glorified.” Details in the video:
