Armenpress: This year, more people attended the liturgy in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Aghtamar Island

A liturgy was performed in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross
on Aghtamar Island in Lake Van. A huge number of Armenians attended the
liturgy, Armenpress reports.

Unprecedented security measures were taken for the liturgy
this year. People, who arrived in Turkey from Armenia, were escorted from
hotels to the island by officers of the Turkish security services. Dozens of
police officers carried out special patrols on the island. The police
helicopter hovered in the sky throughout the liturgy.

Fortunately, no incident occurred, and the ceremony went
smoothly. The liturgy was attended not only by Armenians, but also by many
tourists from all over the world.

The liturgy is allowed once a year by the Turkish
authorities on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
