Baltic States against ceasefire in Ukraine

The defense ministers of the Baltic States are against establishing a ceasefire in Ukraine due to alleged Russian threats, the Financial Times reports, citing Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur and Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė.

“We all understand that after a ceasefire, Russia will quickly redistribute its forces; this means that the level of threat will significantly and rapidly increase,” Pevkur told reporters.

The officials also expressed opposition to the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine, as they believe it would weaken the alliance’s eastern flank.
