Former Trump adviser John Bolton indicted over national security data leak

John Bolton, former U.S. national security adviser under President Donald Trump, has been indicted for the unlawful disclosure of classified information, CNN reports, citing court sources.

According to sources, the indictment was issued in Maryland following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). CNN reports that Bolton allegedly shared highly classified information via email with his wife and daughter.

In response to the charges, Bolton’s legal team said the criminal case against him is baseless.

“These charges are based on excerpts from Ambassador Bolton’s personal diaries, which he kept over his 45-year career. The entries are not classified and are accessible only to his immediate family,” attorney Abbe Lowell told Fox News.
