Nigerian election candidate withdraws after passport leak
A candidate in Nigeria’s parliamentary elections has withdrawn from the race following controversy surrounding his identity, the Daily Star reports.
According to the newspaper, Mahmoud Sadis Buba claims to be 30 years old and says his childlike appearance is the result of hereditary dwarfism. However, a recently leaked passport suggests that Buba may actually be younger than 16.
Buba had been nominated to Nigeria’s National Assembly by the APC party and had told supporters that he was proud of his appearance.
In a social media post, Buba said he reached the decision after discussions with family members and party officials.
