Trump keeps open option of US special forces operation in Iran if talks collapse
US President Donald Trump has stated that if talks between Washington and Tehran break down, the American side may consider conducting an operation involving special forces on the territory of the Islamic Republic to address military objectives, TASS writes, referring to the Financial Times.
“There are two options: either we go in (into Iranian territory — ed.) and deal with issues that previously could not be resolved through military means, or we simply maintain the blockade of Iran, because, as it turns out, it is more effective than any military strike,” the US president told the Financial Times.
He also noted that the current tensions between Israel and Iran should not affect the negotiation process between Washington and Tehran.
“It will not affect the deal in any way. I believe the deal will happen. Let’s see what happens,” Trump added.
