Brazil foreign minister warns of risk of US military intervention
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has warned that the United States’ decision to designate the country’s largest criminal organizations as terrorist groups creates an unprecedented risk of direct military intervention in the South American nation, TASS reports.
Speaking during a hearing in the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil’s National Congress, Vieira said the U.S. government’s decision poses serious risks for Brazilian citizens from both financial and migration perspectives.
“The [US government’s decision] carries serious risks for Brazilian citizens from financial and migration standpoints. Ultimately, it has created the possibility of the United States using military force on Brazilian territory,” he said during the parliamentary hearing.
