850 firefighters battle forest fire near Paris

A forest fire that broke out 70 kilometers south of Paris has spread across around 1,900 hectares of land, Paul-Édouard Laurent, spokesperson for the Seine-et-Marne fire and rescue service, told Franceinfo radio.

He said the main blaze has affected 1,600 hectares, while a second fire, which broke out on Monday afternoon in the immediate vicinity of Fontainebleau, has reached 320 hectares. Laurent added that the fire could continue to spread over the next two days.

Around 850 firefighters are fighting the blaze, with four Canadair firefighting aircraft providing aerial support. Difficult weather conditions are contributing to the spread of the fire, as high temperatures continue to affect central France.
