Azerbaijan recalls permanent representative to Council of Europe

Azerbaijan has recalled its permanent representative to the Council of Europe, Fakhraddin Ismayilov.

The decision was formalized in a decree signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The move comes after Aliyev said that Azerbaijani authorities had seriously considered not only suspending the country’s activities in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), but also withdrawing from the Council of Europe altogether.

The Azerbaijani president claimed that PACE continues to impose “unacceptable and ultimatum-like demands” on Azerbaijan.
