Witkoff։ I’m not sure many truly understood the significance of TRIPP when we were just starting to work on it

Unlike many conflicts that we see in the world, in the case of Armenia and Azerbaijan, we had all the ingredients of a deal. This was stated by U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff in New York during an event organized by the Peace Council.

According to him, progress in normalization of the relations between the two countries was achieved largely thanks to Donald Trump’s personal involvement.

” We had leaders on each side from Armenia and from Azerbaijan who were incredibly pragmatic and mature and realize that a peace deal was a better solution for a long-term conflict. And then most importantly, we had President Trump with his overarching support of this,” Witkoff noted.

According to him, Trump instructed to “make it a priority.” And the process became effective because Trump truly focused on it.

Speaking about the TRIPP project, Witkoff noted: “I’m not sure many truly understood the significance of this project when we were just starting to work on it.”

According to him, the implementation of the project will make it possible to “widen the bottlenecks on global trade routes.”

” When we took Armenia through it, I think Armenia looked at this and basically said to themselves, ‘This will be so impactful and profound in our country’s future.’ There’s a sense now that they may be underestimated what the impact will be.”
