Pashinyan received ”Rosatom” Director General Alexey Likhachev

Nikol Pashinyan received Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the ”Rosatom” State Atomic Energy Corporation, and the delegation he led. The Armenian government reports.

‘’The interlocutors discussed issues related to the ongoing work to extend the operating life of Unit 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), as well as Russian proposals concerning the construction of a new nuclear power unit in Armenia.

The Prime Minister noted that the Government of Armenia continues to consider proposals received from international partners regarding the construction of a new nuclear power unit, and that a decision will be made in the near future. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the final decision will be based exclusively on economic considerations, taking into account the price, quality, safety, timeline, and guarantees.

Alexey Likhachev noted that Rosatom has constructive cooperation with its Armenian partners, including on extending the operating life of the existing power unit of the Armenian NPP. He then presented details regarding proposals and possible mechanisms for the construction of a new nuclear power plant, as well as small- and medium-capacity power units’’ the statement reads.
