European Commission delegation discusses TRIPP and its regional significance in Nakhijevan

A delegation led by Adrien Király, Director for Eastern Neighbourhood and Turkey at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, has arrived on a visit to Azerbaijan and visited Nakhijevan. Jeyhun Jalilov, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic, received the delegation.

During the conversation, satisfaction was expressed with the agreements reached within the framework of the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It was noted that ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the region can make a significant contribution to creating new transport and communication opportunities, expanding economic ties, and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation.

Jeyhun Jalilov noted that Nakhijevan is an important strategic region located at the intersection of the East-West and North-South transport corridors. He spoke about the significance of the so-called “Zangezur corridor” and the TRIPP project envisaged within its framework from the perspective of expanding regional transport links.

It was noted that the implementation of the project will make it possible to secure a land connection between Nakhijevan and other territories of Azerbaijan. The railway line passing through the area is expected to become a vital transport link connecting Nakhijevan with Türkiye. It was stated that the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will create new opportunities for the launch of these transport routes and the further enhancement of their regional importance.
