Le Pen: Ukraine's EU membership would be tantamount to hara-kiri for the bloc
Marine Le Pen, the presidential candidate for France's National Rally party, has stated that Ukraine's accession to the European Union would be tantamount to hara-kiri for the bloc. She made these remarks in an interview with the Financial Times.
Le Pen says she would stop financial aid to Ukraine within six months of her election because France can no longer afford it. “The honest thing to do with [Ukrainian president Volodymyr] Zelenskyy is to tell him, to warn him in fact that, listen, we can’t do more, we can’t manage more.”
She is adamantly opposed to Ukrainian membership of the EU and sceptical about EU sanctions against Russia. “We the EU have led an energy war against Russia, when we haven’t got any energy. It is not very smart.”
“There are tens of millions of French people who live in fear of tomorrow. I want to re-establish confidence in tomorrow,” she said.
