Former head of Aliyev's administration sentenced to 14 years in prison

Former Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehdiyev has been sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment. This decision was handed down during a hearing at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Murad Aslanov.

The verdict specifies that, taking into account R. Mehdiyev's age and state of health, the sentence will be suspended under Article 70 of the Criminal Code. By the same ruling, the court decided to submit a petition to consider revoking Ramiz Mehdiyev's state awards. Furthermore, his property is subject to confiscation in favor of the state. The list of confiscated assets includes land plots, mansions, shopping centers, residential buildings, companies, as well as shares in the banking sector.

As a reminder, the criminal case against Ramiz Mehdiyev was initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) in October 2025. He was charged under Article 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through crime), Article 274 (high treason), and Article 278.1 (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or the violent change of the constitutional order of the state) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Ramiz Mehdiyev served as the Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2019.
