Police used tear gas against protesters in Lyon

Protests are taking place in several cities across France. Demonstrations began this morning in the southern cities of Marseille and Lyon, as well as in the western city of Nantes.

In Lyon police and gendarmerie officers used tear gas to disperse unrest during a demonstration against rising prices in Lyon, as part of a series of protests announced across France, the news outlet Actu reports.

According to the outlet, protesters marching through the city began throwing stones at shop windows and police officers. Law enforcement officers then responded by deploying tear gas.
Earlier, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that 70,000 police officers and gendarmes would be deployed across the country on November 5 to ensure security during the planned protests.
