Zakharova: The opening of a Russian consulate in Kapan will be a reliable guarantee for the peaceful and secure development of Syunik

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing that Russia is confident that its consistent presence in Armenia’s strategically significant South aligns with the long-term interests of Armenia, Russia, and the entire region.

Zakharova noted that the opening of the Russian consulate in Kapan could signal a boost to trade and investment, as well as cultural and educational cooperation, and advance the economic agenda between the two countries.

She noted that Syunik plays an important role in the EAEU format due to the recent ratification of a free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU. “All of this will be a reliable guarantee for the dynamic, peaceful, and secure development of Syunik,” Zakharova stated, expressing hope that an agreement will be reached in May regarding the timeline for the opening of the consulate between Armenia and Russia.
