Tehran urges Armenia not to believe US promises over TRIPP, Iran’s Supreme Leader relative says

The Armenian people and authorities should not believe promises made by the United States, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, president of the Saadi Foundation, said in response to ABC Media’s question about the significance of the TRIPP project and its potential impact on Armenian-Iranian relations.

Haddad-Adel, whose son-in-law is Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said Iranian officials had received assurances from the Armenian government that the project does not run counter to Tehran’s interests.

“The Armenian authorities have assured us that this project is not directed against our interests. We hope that is the case. However, we advise the Armenian people and government not to fall for US promises. You saw what happened to the Arab states during the war—lessons should be learned from that. Whenever Americans establish a presence in neighboring countries, their primary objective is to strike Iran. We hope nothing of the sort will happen to our in that case,” Haddad-Adel said.

Commenting on the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, Haddad-Adel said the talks are taking place in an atmosphere of profound distrust.

“Our negotiations are being conducted in an environment of extreme mistrust. We are prepared to defend the rights of the Iranian people, and we are even ready to go to war again if the other side moves away from negotiations,” he said.

According to Haddad-Adel, power in today’s world has fallen into the hands of madmen, leading to numerous violations of international law.

“We are optimistic about the future, and there is no path other than resistance and struggle. The pride of our leaders has always been that they govern by the will of the people,” he added.

Speaking about Armenian-Iranian relations, Haddad-Adel stressed the deep historical ties between the two nations.

“Iran and Armenia share a history stretching back thousands of years. Fortunately, these relations have no dark chapters—they have always been excellent, and now even more so. Armenians are a respected and beloved minority in Iran. None of our neighboring countries has produced as many individuals devoted to our country as the Armenians have,” he said.

Haddad-Adel also underscored the importance of the North-South transport corridor for Iran, noting that Armenia provides Iran with the shortest route to Europe.

Haddad-Adel made the remarks during a meeting with an Armenian delegation and media representatives visiting Iran. The delegation included former Armenian National Congress PM candidate Levon Zurabyan, Armenian Tourism Federation President Mekhak Apresyan, and orientalist Kristine Grigoryan.

On Feb. 28, Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with his daughter-in-law and granddaughter, was killed.
